Many of us are seriously considering swapping out our morning cup of coffee for a greener alternative and a New Year's resolution we can actually stick with. Matcha green tea has created quite a buzz this year with its nutrients and potent antioxidant content and other long-lasting positive effects on the body. But you can also use matcha in your skincare and you just may reach your skin goals in the new year sooner than you think if you begin applying it directly on your skin.. If you aren't addicted to matcha green tea yet, chances are you haven't tried it: matcha is one of the few botanicals that offer L-theanine to the brain, creating both calmness and attentiveness without the crash of coffee and I, personally, am completely addicted to its topical benefits.
Matcha is gently stimulating, increasing cell rejuvenation while still calming inflamed conditions like acne. Like its cousin, green tea, matcha comes from the camellia sinensus plant, but goes through a unique growing and harvesting process that makes it higher in both antioxidants and caffeine. According to the National Library of Medicine, the polyphenols naturally protects the skin from sun damage. Rich in potassium, vitamins A and C, matcha is great for acne-sufferers and also as a stronger ability to fight bacteria than regular green tea.

Matcha & Honey Face Cleanser
The leaves of matcha are powdered to make it not only a more potent way of reaping the benefits of green tea, but easy to add to your favorite facials. Add matcha powder to raw honey and mix, manually, until completely blended. Apply your facial on damp skin for at least 60 seconds before rinsing off with warm water. This facial has a long shelf-life—great news, because it's gentle enough for daily use.
Matcha Latte Body Scrub
I'm a firm believer that what you put on your body should be in sync with what goes inside; whenever I have a client whose body is in desperate need of an immunity boost, I have to recommend a matcha latte body scrub which is a simple recipe of purposeful ingredients. Start by mixing the dry ingredients in a glass bowl and then add coconut oil. Stir until ingredients are blended completely and add water. Transfer to a sealable container and apply on wet skin, massaging gently throughout the body. Rinse well and save for future use: as long as you use distilled water, the scrub should keep as long as the expiration date on your coconut oil.
Matcha Infused Green Clay Mask
One thing I never skip in my weekly skincare routine is a clay mask. Allowing the pores to purge impurities without drying out the skin can make a noticeable difference in your complexion. Of course, I like to infuse my clay by adding matcha green tea to give my skin a healthy dose of antioxidants. Add your preferred clay directly to the container you plan to store it in. Add distilled water to reach a solid, dense consistency. Add matcha powder and mix well with a wooden spoon. Adding more water will make the mask looser and less water will make it more solid. Apply on damp skin for 5 minutes or until dry. Rinse thoroughly with water. Use this mask just once a week to start seeing the benefits.
