Every weekend, as hordes of hungry diners wait in line for brunch, Extra Crispy will hit the pavement, visiting a neighborhood’s most popular spots and talking to people who love the meal as much as we do. For this installment of Street Meet, Extra Crispy went to the Star Trek Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Extra Crispy: How did you get into Star Trek?
I was into Star Wars first, and then I had a tragic thing happen in my life. Star Wars reminded me of my life before the tragedy. I had heard about Star Trek and knew people liked it. I went to Star Trek because it represented my new life.

How did you get into Star Trek?
When I was little, I got in a lot of trouble because I kept getting out of bed to watch it. Eventually my parents just let me watch. I got so into science, I built my own space ship from an old refrigerator box. I was determined to be a ship’s doctor. I wanted to be Bones. Instead I taught high school science for 26 years. I explained everything in terms of Star Trek. I haven’t been to space but some of my students work in that arena. I live through them.

How did you get into Star Trek?
I’m old. When I was a kid my dad would watch it with me. We would go to our friend’s house to watch it. They owned a television store so they had a color set. Ours was just black and white. That was the only science fiction on at the time, until Star Wars came out.

How did you get into Star Trek?
Jodi: I saw the first show. I watched the premiere. That was part of my family's weekly routine. When it was syndicated, we could watch it all the time. When Wrath of Khan came along, we were so happy to pass it on to our children.

T.K.: I started when I was young because it was a family thing. I really got into it when Star Trek: The Next Generation came on. Wil Wheaton was so cute. I saw him on Big Bang Theory recently and thought, "What happened to the kid?"
