Cereal enthusiasts, listen up. The breakfast gods are planning to grace our tables with the most miraculous invention of all time: Girl Scout cookie cereal. This new treat-turned-breakfast is the brainchild of General Mills’ most recent partnership with Girls Scouts of America, creator of the most swoon-worthy cookies out there. I mean, it’s no secret that few people can resist those boxes of Thin Mints or Tagalongs that only come around once a year. And when the sales rep is an adorable Girl Scout just trying to do her thing, who can say no? It’s a foolproof way to forget everything your Mama told you about not talking to strangers. Sorry Mom.
Inspired by two of the organization’s iconic cookie flavors, Girl Scout cookie cereal will be available nationwide in January 2017. It coincides with the Girl Scout cookie season, fueling the hype for what might very well be the most wonderful time of the year. The collaboration will include two versions: Thin Mint and Caramel Crunch, formerly known as Samoa. Both flavors will be released at the same time. And, like cookie season, the products will be limited edition.
In other words, it will launch the start of “stock-up-and-hope-no-one-judges-me” season. It also gives you some time to start clearing out some space in your pantry, closet, and basement. After all, it is likely that these products will create a buzz much like the Girl Scout ice cream flavors that have launched several times over the past few years. Clearly, non-cookie cookie foods have a place in our hearts (and stomachs.)
Personally, I’m looking forward to seeing what the wizards of the breakfast world will create with these two limited-edition cereals. The products have the type of hybrid nature that presents so much tasty potential. Girl Scout’s cookie cereal cocktails, maybe? Cookie cereal-crusted French toast? No-bake cereal bars? All of the above? Yes please.
