We all know holiday gift-giving can be a struggle. You’re guessing co-worker’s sweater size for the office Secret Snowman, assuming your cousin likes a certain type of jewelry or wine, making sure you don’t buy your partner anything that’s too much (or vice-versa). The list goes on. Instead of starting to loudly scream or sob at Macy’s because you just don’t know if your mom would like Le Labo Santal 33 perfume, don’t buy people gifts this year. Make them scones in a jar. 

Just calm down, leave the mall, and go to the grocery store. Buy a bag of flour and brown sugar, and grab a pallet of wide-mouth mason jars. The holidays are about to go from Stress Level 5000 to 0.

You can easily double and triple (and infinite multiples) this recipe to fill as many jars as you’d like. Make them all the same flavor, or change up the recipe for each jar. The recipe card (scroll down!) lists all the main ingredients in the dough, so your friends can know exactly what they’re eating—just make sure you write in whatever mix-ins you added at the bottom of the card.

In each jar, layer 2 cups all purpose flour, 1 cup rolled oats, ¼ cup brown sugar, 2 teaspoons baking powder, ½ teaspoon baking soda, and ½ teaspoon kosher salt. Now comes the fun part: flavoring. Here are a few ideas:

Crushed pecans (or your favorite nut or seed) + chocolate chunks

Craisins + chopped candied ginger

M&Ms + gently crushed pretzels

Matcha powder + slivered almonds

Dried currants + candied orange peel

After deciding on a flavor, add ¼ cup layer of each item listed above into the jar.
